Obituary of Raymond Edward Kosley
Raymond "Ray" Edward Kosley, 94, of Colorado Springs, Colorado passed away on December 10, 2022.
Ray graduated from Ramah High School, and then joined the Army. He earned the rank of Sergeant First Class (T) and served in the Korean War. Once he returned home, he met his wife, Chris, with whom he enjoyed nearly sixty-nine years of wedded bliss.
Survivors of Ray speak fondly about how important faith was and how he loved the beliefs he learned in his lifelong membership in the Lutheran church. He was baptized as an infant at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Calhan, Colorado, and became a charter member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church when the congregation formed.
He loved ice cream and every night at 9:00PM was ice cream time. He loved people even though he swore he was shy. It didn't matter who they were, it was important to offer them a drink and/or food when they came to the house. Even in his last days, he was telling people to get a drink out of that cupboard and have some food.
His grandchildren and great-grandchildren specifically enjoy recalling going around on Christmas Eve bestowing the Slovak Christmas blessings called Vincujem, pitching baseball and softball in the backyard, hop-a-doodley-doo rides on his foot, singing in the car, pitching pennies at the oil warehouse where he worked, getting coffee and donuts, "golden nugget" sandwiches, and all the times he said "no," fondly earning Savannah's name for him, "Papa no-no."
He was a proud member of the Ramah Masonic Lodge, a thirty-second degree Mason, and a member of the Colorado Springs Masonic temple. He was also a member of the Colorado Springs Shrine Club and the Ramah American Legion. He loved to play cards, horseshoes, and baseball with the kids. As long as he was with family, he was happy. He was looking forward to playing ball with Wyatt. He valued hard work and helped many times at family farms or with household repair projects.
He worked many jobs, including teaching, the army, oil and auto parts sales, and he owned his own business, Ray Ko Oil and Auto Supply.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Anna Kosley; his son, Andy; and his siblings, John, Tom, Mary, Anna, Emma, Dorothy, Loretta, Elsie, Agnes, Andy, Robert, Leo, Betty, Barbara, Roxine, Ernie, Dick, and Larry.
Ray leaves behind his wife, Chris (Manyik) Kosley; his daughters, Cindy, Becky, and Susan (Andy); his grandchildren, Chad, Betsy, Nicholas, Cookie, Daniel, Sarah, and Justin; his great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Eythen, Savannah, and Wyatt Raymond. He is also survived by his only living sibling, younger brother Jim Kosley; and many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
